The new SIP PERFORMANCE racing cylinder gets the most out of the legendary Vespa T5 engine. Designed for riders who want to exploit its full potential, this cylinder combines sporty power with everyday reliability.
Tuning with maximum performance
The T5 engine is considered the most advanced design Piaggio has ever developed for classic manual transmission Vespas. Wide crankshaft bearings, generous transfer ports, and a sophisticated housing architecture make it the perfect basis for powerful conversions. Unfortunately, the selection of tuning parts for the T5 is rather limited compared to PX engines – this is exactly where the new SIP PERFORMANCE 199 cc cylinder comes in.
Racing Cylinder SIP PERFORMANCE 199 cc
- aluminium
- 5 ports
- Ø 65,0mm
- stroke 60mm
- conrod 115,0mm
- outlet 3-parts
With a bore of 65 mm and a stroke of 60 mm, it fully exploits the maximum displacement potential of the T5. The three-piece exhaust with bolted flange ensures optimum flow conditions and stable mounting, even at higher speeds. The result is a cleanly tuned plug & play setup that not only delivers noticeably more power, but also drives harmoniously in everyday use – ideal for touring riders and sporty Vespa fans.
During development, the focus was on creating a cylinder that works “out of the box” and also offers sufficient scope for individual performance enhancements. The 199 impresses with powerful torque, reliable running characteristics, and ample tuning reserves for experiment-loving mechanics.
A crankshaft with a 60 mm stroke and a connecting rod length of 115 mm is required for installation. This transforms the original 125 cc T5 engine into a high-revving 200 cc engine with plenty of power – without compromising on everyday usability or durability.
Transfer ports
The SIP PERFORMANCE 199 cc cylinder uses a modern 5-channel system, fits plug & play onto the original T5 porting channels, and offers tuning reserves for optimized housing transitions—allowing you to exploit its potential individually.
Three-part exhaust duct
The three-part exhaust system—one large main outlet plus two flow-optimized secondary outlets—provides sufficient cross-section, efficient gas exchange, and clean power delivery across the entire speed range thanks to test bench tuning.
Exhaust flange
The bolted exhaust flange is securely connected to the exhaust pipe using two bolts and an O-ring. It fits T5 systems as standard, but thanks to its larger thread radius, it can also be exchanged for manifolds with a larger diameter – stable, flexible, and adaptable.
Crankshaft with 60 mm stroke and 115 mm Conrod
The SIP PERFORMANCE 199 cc cylinder is designed for a 60 mm crankshaft with 115 mm connecting rods—the largest possible stroke variant without housing modification. Despite the longer stroke, the longer connecting rods ensure smooth engine running and maintain the typical smoothness of the T5 engine.
Piston and head
The 65 mm piston with two steel rings and a biconical pin ensures stable performance and long service life. The cylinder head with central spark plug and integrated combustion chamber centering offers optimal combustion and can still be used with the original rubber mounts.
Cooling Hood Cylinder
The cylinder is compatible with the original T5 cooling hood, but requires a slight spacer due to the longer connecting rod. This can be easily achieved with a customized cover plate between the fan cover and the cylinder head.
Conclusion:
The SIP PERFORMANCE 199 cc racing cylinder is the ideal solution for anyone who wants to transform their Vespa T5 into a real sports machine. Plug & play, powerful, and reliable—a tuning part that shows what the T5 is really capable of.
