Thousands of fans met at SIP in Landsberg am Lech on May 31st. Two-wheeler fans came from all directions to the annual SIP Open Day. Around 1,000 scooter enthusiasts even came with their own scooters.

Friends and customers from all over the world

The Open Day kicked off at 10:00 a.m., but those who arrived two hours later had a long search for a parking space. The first fans arrived ahead of time. Vespisti came not only from every federal state in Germany and Europe, but also from Asia. Friends and customers from Belarus, Israel, Japan, Croatia, Latvia, Slovenia, Turkey and the UK, among others, came to Landsberg for the highlight of the year. For example, Finn Canton from Canton Automotive in the Netherlands, Antonio Arzente from Arzente Motori in Spain and Cesare Costantino from C&C di Cesare Costantino in Italy.

It was a class reunion of the Vespa community under a bright blue sky. Christian “Tüte” Laufkötter from the Vespa Club of Germany summed up the event in a few sentences: “What SIP Scootershop has built up for the community in Germany in recent years is unique. I’ve been attending the Open Day for many years now, and it’s incredible how this event has grown while remaining informal”.

Children tinkered and jumped while their parents visited the exhibitors with a cool drink, shopped or ate a delicious pizza. The most impressive custom modifications were on display. For the first time, there was a custom show in which the four most unusual conversions were presented to the visitors. The winner was Dave from Nuremberg with his homage to a legendary Mazda racing car with a Wankel engine.

The longest queue in Landsberg was probably at the SIP dynamometer. Also in 2025, what SIP calls “the hunt for the magical 100 hp limit” took place. Over 100 scooters test their performance on the SIP chassis dynamometer here every year on Open Day. Unfortunately, Erich “Egig” Oberpertinger did not reach 100 hp, but still took the day’s victory with his old Vespa. Egig’s Vespa showed a strong 95 hp at the rear wheel, down from around 3 hp originally.

Safe the date

If you missed the Open Day this year, make a note of May 16, 2026 in your calendar, because that’s when the Vespa community from all over the world will meet again at SIP in Landsberg am Lech. If you were at the Open Day and are looking for a souvenir, you can still find cool T-shirts, posters or patches at SIP.

If you want to read the whole article from the SIP Open Day, you can do so on the SIP Scootershop blog. The highlight of the year was of course also captured on camera.
