The heart of modern Vespa performance: SIP PERFORMANCE crankcase

True two-wheel enthusiasts often dream of upgrading their scooters to a higher performance level. To achieve this goal, Vespa riders are advised to obtain a high-quality empty crankcase.

For decades, SIP Scootershop has been a fixture in the Vespa scooter tuning scene, offering high-end housings. The features of SIP empty housings:

  • perfect fit
  • optimal basis for performance enhancement
  • more material on transfer ports and inlet for milling
  • optimized primary bearing seat for different gear ratios
  • proven designs
  • small parts such as silent rubbers on the swing arm or kick starter rubbers are usually pre-assembled

Anyone who is seriously considering tuning their Vespa or needs an empty housing as an original replacement should – not to say must – consider a few important criteria. Tuning, for example, is an ambitious process that requires a great deal of understanding and know-how.

  • With Elestart
  • Diameter 76 mm
  • Rotary valve, CNC milled
  • Plug & Play for 244 VMC cylinder Explorer
  • Crankcase for 62 stroke spindled, VMC 244

This Malossi crankcase, redesigned by SIP, is one of the most interesting products for high-performance Vespas. A treated crankcase for 244 Explorer racing cylinders from VMC and for crankshafts with a 62/64 stroke.

Since this crankcase could previously only be used with VMC Explorer 244 cylinders after machining, the smart folks at SIP have done the work for Vespa tuners. This means that the crankcase now fits plug-and-play with cylinders and crankshafts with a 62/64 stroke.

Thanks to their reinforced and durable design and plenty of “meat” (material thickness) on the transfer ports and inlet for tuning, these crankcase are ideal as original replacements.

Consult the TÜV before use in the StVZO area.

Significance of the statement “lots of meat”

The material thickness is important for tuning purposes, for example, if a more powerful cylinder is to be installed. In order to achieve performance gains, the overflow channels and the intake channel must be enlarged and flow-optimized. With “plenty of material,” tuners have sufficient material available for expanding the ports. This helps tuners to avoid damaging or even breaking the structural integrity of the housing. With the intake manifolds of the PRO series (21500060, 21500070, 21500080) and the bracket SIP conversion, it is easy to use the crankcase as a replacement for the Vespa 50-125/PV/ET3.

Two different crankcase versions from SIP

The original version of the 2-hole intake manifold has been available since 2019. All in all, this means that an aging engine can be rebuilt to be 100% true to the original—using a new SIP crankcase.

The SIP EVO crankcase offers even more material for milling on the side of the alternator. However, the ignition base plate must be adapted. In return, the inlet also has more “meat” for milling. To do this, the fan channel on the cylinder base sealing surface must be removed and extended to cover the entire surface of both crankcase halves. The SIP EVO version is also available in an attractive Black Edition. The dying of small frames, based on engine damage, has come to an end with the SIP crankcases. The best, optimal setup is a special SIP tip for our two-wheeler: gasket set, shaft seals, bearings. Don’t forget the wedges and gear oil. The crankcase from SIP also benefits from new, reinforced cylinder studs as well as engine screws and matching nuts. The SIP crankcase also features new, reinforced cylinder stud bolts, engine screws, and matching nuts.
