EICMA in Milan is celebrating its impressive 110th anniversary and has once again proven itself as the heart of the international two-wheeler scene. What began in 1914 with just a few stands is now one of the largest trade fairs in the world: over 770 exhibitors from 45 countries, 2100 brands and an area of 330,000 square meters make EICMA a must-attend event for all those who are enthusiastic about the mobility of today and tomorrow. Under the motto “EICMA – we have been leaving our mark for 110 years”, the trade fair once again captivated thousands of visitors – and the SIP Scootershop team was right in the middle of it all.
Jesco from the SIP team was on site and went in search of the hottest new products. With the Vespa GTS 310, a Beach Lambretta and exciting innovations from manufacturers such as VMC and Polini, the EICMA was a real treasure trove for two-wheeler enthusiasts. Here are some of the most exciting impressions.
The Vespa GTS 310: A flagship with new ambitions
Long awaited and hotly debated: The new Vespa GTS 310 was one of the stars of this year’s EICMA. Piaggio describes it as the most powerful Vespa of all time – a big statement for a cult vehicle that has been making history for almost 80 years.
The new 310 cc engine, based on the liquid-cooled 278 cc engine, has been significantly revised. With over 70% new components, an extended stroke and an output of 25 hp, this further development marks a significant leap forward. “The most powerful heart that has ever beaten in a Vespa”, as Piaggio confidently proclaims.
But despite the impressive technology, the presentation was a bit of a disappointment, as Jesco critically notes: “After long Italian speeches about Aprilia and Moto Guzzi, the GTS 310 was merely mentioned. No model on stage, no in-depth information – a real shame for such an important new product.”
After all, he was able to admire the GTS 310 SuperSport “Blu_Eclettico” and the brand new Vespa GTV 310 HPE at the trade fair. The GTV 310 in particular, with its surprising combination of retro features and state-of-the-art technology, caught the eye. Nevertheless, there is still room for improvement in the presentation. Piaggio seems to have placed more emphasis on its affiliated Vespa store with fashion and accessories.
Jesco comments dryly:
“Vespa is increasingly moving in the direction of a lifestyle brand. Obviously, the aim is to appeal to younger target groups. For me, it was rather sobering overall.”
SIP and NISA: tradition meets innovation
A special highlight at EICMA 2024 was the cooperation between SIP Scootershop and NISA. The prototype of a new sports seat for the classic Wideframe models was on display. This was specially developed for touring riders who like to cover long distances on their classic bikes without sacrificing comfort. The collaboration between SIP and NISA shows once again how tradition and innovation complement each other perfectly. At the same time, it was announced that the product range for the Modern Vespa models will be continuously expanded in the coming years – a promising outlook for all Vespa fans.
SIP is particularly proud that its new custom scooter “Tribute” was on display at the NISA stand. With its elegant lines and perfectly coordinated seat, it attracted a lot of attention. This scooter is a true masterpiece that shows how much attention to detail goes into the collaboration between SIP and NISA.
Other manufacturers: Lambretta, VMC and Polini
In addition to Vespa, other manufacturers also caused a stir. The Beach-Lambretta, an exciting concept with retro charm, and the latest developments from VMC and Polini made the hearts of the two-wheeler community beat faster. EICMA 2024 offered numerous highlights for tuning fans in particular – from innovative engine parts to high-performance accessories.
